Celebrating our 70th year
St. Mark’s UMC was established in 1954. Grace UMC, located in Manassas, VA conducted a survey in January 1954. The outcome of that survey established a need for another church in the Yorkshire area of Manassas and St. Mark’s UMC was born.
Rev. F. Baker led the first services at the Yorkshire school on March 7, 1954. On June 13th of the same year the church held “Charter Member Sunday” with 28 beautiful souls putting their faith in action and planted this church. A year later the church had more than doubled its membership. A building fund was created in 1956 and the community of St. Mark’s UMC broke ground in August of 1957. In 1972, a groundbreaking on the church parsonage occurred.
There were a number of construction projects completed including:
- 1984 Completion of the Educational Wing
- 1989 Sanctuary Remodel to create more space for the choir
St. Mark’s UMC has been under the leadership of 23 Pastors during its history.
